Chicas Age Group Transition Plan 2016-2017

Considering the Chicas for your daughters soccer journey?  Great decision.

The Chicas understand the challenges of recent changes made by US Soccer/USYS  regarding birth year placement for the 2016-2017 season.  While greatly simplifying the process, it also presents other challenges related to the development and social aspects of the game.  We at the Chicas have a simple hybrid solution:

Developmental Age Groups (U8-U12): Birth Year
Competitive Age Groups (U13-U19): Ability Based

The following is the Indie Chicas FC Age Group Transition Plan for 2016-2017 Season:

  • Girls Only
  • U8-U19 Age Groups
  • U8-U12 Birth Year Placement (Completed Fall 2015)
    • Example:
      • Jen's birth year is 2007
      • 2016-2017 Season Ends 2017
      • 2017 - Jen's Birth Year 2007 = U10
      • Jen would be placed in the Indie Chicas U10 Age Group
      • *Should Jen demonstrate the ability, maturity, and desire to be challenged further, Jen would be invited to play in the U11 age group to advance her development (via games and training)
  • U13-U19 Ability Based
    • Current Chicas Teams/Age Groups will remain in tact, and compete in the age group of the oldest player on the roster - example:
      • Roster has players born in both 2003 & 2004
      • Team will compete in the U14 age group (2017 - 2003 = U14)
    • Ability based
      • Players demonstrating higher level of ability and sophistication will be considered for older team placement

All players trying out for the Indie Chicas FC will be considered for placement using the following criteria, in this order:

  1. Ability
    • Technical
    • Athleticism
    • Soccer IQ
    • Competitive Spirit
  2. Age
  3. Commitment Level
  4. Roster Openings
  5. Team Needs

If your daughter has the ability and ambition, the Chicas may be for you.  For more information regarding the Indie Chicas FC Program, contact Michael Mollay, Director of Coaching 208-863-2782 c or michaelmarchforth@gmail.com

Sofia Huerta Inspires the Chicas

Sofia Huerta, Chicago Red Stars and Idaho player, spent an evening with the Indie Chicas FC.  "Our players got a chance to meet a world class soccer player tonight, who grew up playing with and for their coaches, played at their schools, lived in their neighborhood, and shared a similar soccer experience...so it makes it real for our kids, " Mollay, Director of Indie Chicas FC.  "Sofia has paved a way for our kids, and as a part of the Indie Chicas family, Sofia is living proof that big dreams are within reach."

Sofia's message was insightful, educational, and most importantly inspirational:

  1. work hard
  2. believe in yourself
  3. pursue your dreams

Sofia Huerta is the possibility!  Dream Big!
